Feb-1, Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman tabled the interim budget ahead of the 2024 Sabah elections. This is her sixth budget as finance minister and the last budget of the Modi government’s second term. Following tradition, Sitharaman called on President Draupadi Murmu on Thursday before presenting the pre-poll budget for 2024–25. She met the President at Rashtrapati Bhawan before heading to Parliament.

The presentation of the Interim Budget for 2024 resulted in a number of innovative initiatives aimed at strengthening various sectors of the economy and addressing pressing social challenges. From innovative programs supporting the deployment of renewable energy to strategic investments in health and agriculture, this budget outlines a vision for inclusive growth and sustainable development.

Rooftop solar systems and free electricity: 1 crore households will benefit from rooftop solar systems, providing up to 300 units of free electricity per month. Expected benefits include savings of up to Rs 15,000 to Rs 18,000 and an opportunity to sell surplus power to Discoms.
