IND VS ENGLAND 1st TEST Day 3: England are 89\1 at lunch!
January 27: India resumed the day with 421 runs. Ravindra Jadeja (87 runs) and Axar Patel (44 runs) were only able to add 15 runs and failed to reach their respective individual milestones. India were bowled out for 436 runs in the first inning.
Despite the difficult task, England openers Ben Duckett and Zak Crawley (31) did not panic and carried out the task with determination, using sweeps and reverse sweeps to attack the Indian spinners. They continued his strategy of counterattack.
Crawley beat Axar for six overs of sight, much to the delight of the England camp. During this period, the left-arm spinner conceded over seven runs per over, while Ashwin conceded over five runs.
But India did not have to wait long for the first breakthrough. Ashwin rolled around the wicket to create an angle against Crawley, and the right-arm defensive drive ended in an easy catch by Rohit Sharma at first slip.
England are still 101 runs behind and Ben Duckett (38) and Ollie Pope (16) are at the crease.
