Feb-5, At a public meeting in Guwahati, Prime Minister Modi criticized the Congress for failing to ensure the development and revival of the country’s heritage. He gave examples of increased tourism and religious pilgrimages to explain the impact of the Bharatiya Janata Party’s policies. Prime Minister Modi also highlighted the increase in higher education institutions and investments in India’s northeast region. Projects worth Rs 116 billion (US$ 1.6 billion) were implemented during the two-day visit to Assam.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday reiterated his support for a double-engine government, saying the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government’s policy has been Vikas and Virasat (development and heritage) for the past 10 years.

In his first public meeting in Assam’s Guwahati ahead of the upcoming parliamentary elections, the prime minister criticized the previous government for failing to simultaneously ensure the development and rejuvenation of the country’s post-independence heritage. The prime minister announced projects worth Rs 11,600 crore during his two-day state visit.

“I am happy with how things have changed in India in his last 10 years. The twin government of the BJP has made both development and heritage (Vikas and Virasat) part of its policy,” the Prime Minister said. The BJP has often used the term “dual engine” to describe its central and state-level governments.

The fruits of this policy can be seen in rural areas of Assam, where religious and historical places are being rejuvenated with modern facilities, he said, adding that this rejuvenation is happening in parallel with development.
