JAN- 30, the Bharatiya Janata Party secured a surprisingly easy victory in the Chandigarh mayoral election.
Manoj Sonkar of the BJP was elected mayor with 16 votes out of 36. AAP’s Kuldeep Kumar came in second with 12. Eight people were classified as “invalid.”
The Chandigarh elections were expected to be a landmark first victory for the Indian bloc, uniting the opposition and defeating the Bharatiya Janata Party. It also aimed to resolve seat-sharing disputes among Indian member states ahead of similar talks in the run-up to general elections.
Specifically, the AAP and Congress parties found it difficult so far to reach an agreement on the division of his 13 seats in Punjab and his 7 seats in Delhi. But, AAP Contested for mayor, while the Congress ran for two secondary positions.
In any case, AAP and Congress members should vote for each other to secure a maximum of 20 votes and win this election easily. But it didn’t work out this time as they expected.
