Hyderabad: JAN-25, England captain Ben Stokes wins the toss and is chosen to bat first in Hyderabad. Openers Ben Duckett and Zak Crawley were as aggressive as ever, smashing Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Siraj all over the ground in the first 10 overs. However, once the spinners came on board, India entered the game with vigor. Ravichandran Ashwin removed Duckett in the 12th over. Jadeja then took the wicket of Ollie Pope, which brought Joe Root into the game. Root had a close call facing the second ball against Jadeja, but India tried unsuccessfully to reverse the LBW appeal. Crawley soon fell, but Root and Bairstow steadied the ship towards England.

India picked up two more wickets to move them to the top, and Jasprit Bumrah also joined them on the day, but the day was largely dominated by spinners. Once England reached the final two wickets, captain Ben Stokes switched gears and shared a profitable 38-run partnership with debutant Tom Hartley for eight wickets. At Tea, Mark Wood was at the other end, and England were 215/8 at that point. Stokes completed his half-century with a six and struck again on the next ball. However, shortly after play resumed, Wood fell. Stokes took as many strikes as he could before falling for 70 of the 88 balls. England were completely all out for 246 runs in the first innings. Ashwin and Jadeja took 3 wickets each, and Bumrha and Axar Patel took 2 wickets each.

Rohit Sharma and Jaiswal started the innings for India. Jaiswal attacked the English bowler from the start. Though Rohit Sharma was dismissed for 24, Jaiswal continued to attack. At the end of day 1, India had 119 runs for the loss of one wicket. Jaiswal 76 runs of 70 balls and Subman gill with 13 runs at the end of the day.
