Indian batter Suryakumar Yadav, known for his flamboyancy, looks set to miss the three-match T20I series against Afghanistan in January after suffering an injury. During the third T20I against South Africa, Suryakumar injured his ankle while fielding. He captained the Indian team in the past two series of T20Is.

A 33-year-old twisted his ankle, and it looks like a round tear, which will take more than one month to recover.

The report goes on to say that the star batter has already reported to NCA for his rehabilitation and possibly will not be available to play against Afghanistan in a three-match T20I series beginning January 11.

Surya has already reported to NCA for rehab work, and the Medical Science team at present has made a diagnosis that he is injured. He won’t be able to take on Afghanistan, which starts three weeks from today. Since he will probably not be picked for the test,. It is more likely that Spector may play in a Ranji Trophy match next February to test his fitness before going into the IPL this April.” A BCCI source.

In Hardik Pandya’s absence, Surya led the side. The Indian all-rounder is still recuperating from his ankle injury which he picked up at the ODI World Cup 2023.

“There is no news on Hardik’s fitness status at the moment, and it could still be a big question as to whether he will be available during the IPL before the end of the season,” the source added.

If Surya or Hardik are unavailable, then the selectors might have to ask Rohit Sharma to take charge of things.
