One Nation one Poll report submitted to President Drupadi Murmu!

March-14, The ‘One Nation, One Poll’ Committee, chaired by former President Ram Nath Kovind, met President Drupadi Murmu and submitted report. The report is based on recommendations regarding the synchronization of elections, which it says will protect the economy and society from the disruption caused by frequent elections.

The High Level Committee on Simultaneous Elections met President Murmu at Rashtrapati Bhawan and submitted an 18,626 page report. This is the result of 191 days of extensive consultation and research with stakeholders and experts since its inception on September 2, 2023.

Elections are held in some regions every year. In some states, up to 200- 300 days are spent on elections each year due to the large number of panchayat and local body elections.

But the move would require several changes, from unifying the electoral register to amending the law and constitution, and the recommendations set out include a roadmap for that.

The process will take time, as the government will need to amend the law after analyzing the report.
