In an enthralling performance at the ICC U-19 World Cup in Bloemfontein, Mushir Khan scored a sparkling century to lead India to a formidable target of 296 runs against New Zealand in the Super Six.
Mangan Oval provided perfect batting conditions, and Mushir seized the opportunity to surpass Pakistan’s Shazaib Khan and become the first player to cross 300 runs in the ongoing tournament.
His 131 innings with 13 fours off 125 balls and his three sixes demonstrated not only his excellent batting game but also his ability to increase the pace of scoring at key moments. After a shaky start with the early loss of centurion Arshin Kulkarni, India’s Mushir Khan and Adarsh Singh bounced back well and forged a vital partnership of 77 runs.
Adarsh displayed his attacking skills, displaying finesse drives and elegant pull shots. However, his promising innings ended at 52 runs.
Despite the wicket chaos in the second half, India narrowly missed the 300-run mark, finishing with 295 for 8 runs. New Zealand’s Mason Clarke put in a great bowling performance, returning 64 runs and 4 wickets in 8 overs.
